I am a Oncampus Coventry student that prepare the Master into Coventry University. I am from China but used to live in South Korea. I majored in Chemical Engineering in undergraduate university, but now I changed my subject into International Business Management (IBM). This is because I want to work in a cosmetic company but not be a researcher in lab. In order to gain more opportunities, I think I should learn both of fields.
I was born in China and accepted nine years of compulsory education as well as three years of secondary education. Long times living in China result in fluent Mandarin speaking and understanding Chinese culture. Learning in China is quite difficult because of enormous competitiveness. I spent more than 8 hours in school on average and everyday teachers imparted variety of knowledge to us. Otherwise, too much homework always let me have less time to rest. Too much pressure comes to regular examination. Each month we had once exam at least. Although learning in China is not a easy thing, but it also gives me some benefits. Under a serious academic environment, I can learn more and better as well as good foundation for university’s study.
After finished my high school, I went to Korea for my higher education. Being with my families is one of the most important reasons that I decided to study in Korea. I had been interested in chemistry and do well in this subject, so in the university I learnt Chemical Engineering in Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU). Students in SKKU are brilliant since it is one of the best universities in South Korea. Subject is much more difficult than what I thought. Therefore, in order to get good grade I have to do the best I can. On the other hand, we need to accept compulsory curriculums and elective courses. As a result, I learnt lots of knowledge beyond main subject but exactly good for future life such as the Labour Law. I also joined a Korean traditional instruments club and learnt how to play Gayagum. It was fun, I even participated in several public performances held by the club. It was a wonderful experience and good memories during my university life. In addition, I did part-time job during the vacation as a sales staff in a clothing store as well as a translator for Chinese clients. This was also a special experience for me and have learnt some social skills.
After graduated from SKKU, I decided to learn business subject in the UK for being out to better myself.
Since I was in high school, I dreamed to live in a western country. The life style showed as in TV attracted me a lot. Therefore, I came to the UK, a very beautiful country. In addition, I like somewhere is steeped in history, and obviously Coventry is what I wanted. I think in the UK I can enjoy my life and will be very satisfied with it, however, the reality is not as good as I think.
In the past, I was an optimistic girl, I used to talk with my friends and always believe that everything will be fine. I was very confident about myself. However, it is probably because of the languages and too much pressure on study, I lost my confidence. I became shy and afraid to talk with others. I found that I am not really good at English speaking. I usually cannot understand others saying and also cannot organise my language as well. It caused that I start to avoid communicating with others and speak more Chinese with my friends, although it is not good to improve my English. I think I should be brave, because if I am not brave enough, no one will back me up. I hope that I can overcome the difficulties and make wonderful experience in the UK.
In my free time, I used to listen classical music which is my favourite kind of music. By the way, I prefer Chopin’s music for his romantic style whereas the best pick of orchestra is Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto. Sometimes I also go shopping or to a cinema with my friends. Spending time with friend is exactly glorious. I have made some very good friends so far, they make me feel not alone. They are outgoing, active, sympathetic, and reliable so that I found that I always rely on my friends.
Now, I am looking forward to travel with my friends and make some beautiful memories after the end of term.
